The Shoreman

Last night, I dreamt I stood at the edge of the sea and I met a man who lived there. I called out to him cheerfully, “What would I give to take your place always enjoying the sea!”

He replied despondently, “What would I give to take your place! The tides are called back to the ocean and in due time return to the shore. But when I am called back, I shall never return.”

“Oh, that’s too bad.”
